RESEARCH PROJECTS (ongoing & recently completed)
Funding Agency: DOST-PCAARRD Duration: April 2022-March 2023 (Y1) Partner SUCs: Jose Rizal Memorial State University and Mindanao State University - Iligan Institute of Technology
The program aims to address gaps in information needed to strengthen the management of sardine and associated small pelagic stocks off the Zamboanga Peninsula to ensure long term sustainability of the small pelagics fishing industry,
Funding Agency: DOST-PCAARRD Duration: March 2020-August 2022
The project aims to examine various aspects of the reproduction and early life stages of S. gibbosa in the Visayan Sea to provide strategic inputs to the management of their fisheries.
Funding Agency: USAID Fish Right Program Duration: May 2020 - Septermber 2022
The USAID Fish Right Program in partnership with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources seeks to support compliance with fisheries practices geared towards achieving a 10% increase in fish biomass based on catch rates and observed reef fish biomass in Calamianes, Southern Negros, and Visayan Sea. This is to be achieved by reducing overfishing, destructive and illegal fishing, and degradation of marine ecosystems. This study will determine reef fish biomass in the existing MPAs in Calamianes and provide estimate of its increase from the previous monitoring measurement of ECOFISH project in 2017.
Funding Agency: Oceana Philippines Duration: December 2019 - August 2021 Partner SUCs: Bicol State University Tabaco Campus, Partido State University & Samar State University
The overall goal of the study was to provide inputs to the holistic management of sardine resources in FMA 7 in terms of fisheries biology and to strengthen local partner universities in terms of serving their advisory role in the FMA as members of the Science Advisory Group (SAG). The study was designed to complement existing efforts of the BFAR-NSAP in the FMA to fill in major gaps in information necessary for sound fisheries management.
Beneficiaries of the information: entire Municipality of Ajuy
Determine the status and condition of seagrass and coral reef habitats within waters of Ajuy, and compare results with those from previous surveys conducted in 2017.
